HISTORY

Founded in 1825, Gustavsbergs Porslinsfabrik is a cornerstone of Swedish ceramic tradition. Located just outside Stockholm, the factory remains the only one in the Nordics still producing bone china — a refined and durable material that demands extraordinary craftsmanship. Over nearly two centuries, the factory has shaped the legacy of Scandinavian design, working with icons like Stig Lindberg and Wilhelm Kåge. Today, it continues to merge historic expertise with a new generation of designers and makers.

TRUE CRAFTMANSHIP

Unlike many modern producers, Gustavsberg still relies on handcraft techniques in nearly every step of its production. For Subjective, the factory manufactures pieces using a porcelain-casting method so intricate it was nearly lost - a technique salvaged only when a retired craftsman returned to teach a new team. Every bowl, plate and cup reflects this rare process: refined through touch, not automation. The result is work that feels human, precise, and deeply rooted in knowledge worth preserving.

OUR JOURNEY

Subjective partners with Gustavsberg out of shared values: preserving local craft, slowing down production, and placing care at the centre of every object. The collaboration is close-knit, hands-on, and grounded in transparency. Together, we’re not just making porcelain - we’re helping protect a living tradition. Through continuous dialogue and careful manufacturing, our teams shape each piece with mutual respect for both design and heritage.

Made, together

Gustavsberg produces two of Subjective’s most beloved series. Ebb, designed by Anna Lerinder, is a minimalist tableware collection with hand-painted surfaces that elevate any setting. Cylindrar, a tea set by Alexandra Nilasdotter, explores the sculptural purity of the cylinder through subtle shifts in proportion. Both are made with the finest of materials, with forms refined over years of development. These pieces feel effortless - but are anything but.
